7 Signs Your Car Has Hail Damage (Even If You Didn't See the Storm)

1. Shallow round dimples on horizontal panels
Roof, hood, and trunk take the worst of it. Bend down and look across the panel at an angle in direct sunlight — dents appear as shadow distortions.
2. Dimples on the top of fenders
Often missed in casual inspection. Walk around the car at eye level with the panel.
3. Cracked or chipped paint on edges
Larger hail can chip clearcoat on body line edges, hood lips, and roof rails.
4. Cracked windshield or side glass
Stars, chips, or cracks that weren't there before the storm.
5. Damaged trim, mirrors, or antennas
Plastic trim can crack under big hail. Side mirrors and shark-fin antennas are vulnerable.
6. Bent or dented sunroof / moonroof glass
Tempered glass on sunroofs can crack or shatter. Inspect with the cover open.
7. Dimples discovered at the car wash
Soap film highlights dents you'd miss when dry. Many drivers first notice hail damage at the wash.
