Mobile PDR vs Shop PDR in Dallas: Which Is Right for You?

    By Max Exteriors PDR · April 5, 2026 · 5 min read

    Mobile PDR — best for

    • Single door dings or small dents (1–5 dents)
    • Easy-access panels (doors, fenders, hood)
    • Time-strapped owners who can't drop off a vehicle
    • Fleet, dealer, and corporate accounts

    Shop PDR — best for

    • Hail damage (multi-panel work)
    • Repairs needing trim, glass, or headliner R&I
    • Insurance claim work (adjuster meetings)
    • Aluminum panels and complex jobs

    Quality difference

None — if both technicians are equally skilled. The difference is access to lighting, lifts, and PDR-specific equipment. Major hail jobs belong in a controlled environment with overhead light boards and panel lifts.

    Cost difference

Small mobile jobs are typically 10–20% cheaper than shop equivalent (no overhead). Large jobs cost the same — mobile shops will route hail work to a shop location.

    Insurance and mobile PDR

Most carriers approve mobile PDR for small claims. Hail damage almost always requires a shop visit so the adjuster can co-inspect.
