The physics of a hail dent

This is the slow part. The tech removes interior trim, headliners, tail lights, door panels — whatever it takes to reach behind the dent with specialized rods. Some panels require glue-pull techniques where access is impossible.
Step 3 — Push, tap, blend
Using rods sometimes longer than your arm, the technician pushes from behind in tiny increments — often less than a millimeter at a time — while watching the light board. Each push is checked, blended, and refined until the surface reads flat.
Step 4 — Glue-pull for tight panels
For roofs and quarter panels where back-side access is impossible, techs glue tabs to the dent and pull with a slide hammer or mini-lifter, then tap down the high spots. Modern glue-pull is precise enough to handle most hail dents alone.
Step 5 — Final QC
