Hail Damage Deductibles in Texas, Explained

    By Max Exteriors PDR · March 1, 2026 · 5 min read

    Standard comprehensive deductible

Most Texas auto policies carry $250, $500, or $1,000 comprehensive deductibles. The higher your deductible, the lower your premium.

    Wind/hail deductibles (separate)

Some Texas policies break out a separate wind/hail deductible that can be a flat dollar amount OR a percentage of vehicle value. Read your declarations page carefully.

Deductible assistance — is it legal?

In Texas, a shop can absorb part of your deductible as long as it isn't used to inflate the insurance claim. Reputable Dallas PDR shops offer this as a legitimate goodwill discount when claim volume supports it.

    What you'll actually pay

    • $500 deductible, no assistance → $500 out of pocket
    • $500 deductible, full assistance → $0 out of pocket
    • $1,000 deductible, partial assistance ($500) → $500 out of pocket

    Ask the question

Before approving a repair, just ask: "Do you offer deductible assistance on this claim?" The worst answer is no.
