Avoiding Hail Damage Repair Scams in Dallas

    By Max Exteriors PDR · December 12, 2025 · 5 min read

    Red flag #1 — Door-to-door solicitation

Legitimate Dallas PDR shops don't knock on doors after storms. Storm chasers do.

Red flag #2 — "We'll cover your deductible — sign here"

Deductible assistance is legal when properly disclosed. Verbal-only promises in a parking lot are not. Get it in writing on the work order.

Red flag #3 — Cash only / no shop address

If they can't show you a physical Dallas-area shop, walk away. Warranty claims require a business that still exists in six months.

Red flag #4 — Pressure to file the claim now

Get a written estimate first. You decide whether to file — not the contractor.

Red flag #5 — Asking for the insurance check upfront

Insurance pays the shop directly at completion (or in two-party check form). Cash advances before work is done are a major scam pattern.

How to verify a legitimate shop

    • Physical location with signage
    • Long-standing Google reviews (years, not weeks)
    • Insurance carrier confirmation of DRP status
    • Written estimate and warranty document
    • Listed BBB and state contractor registration
